USL - Lafayette, LA
After the Air Force, I worked in the paper mill in Bogalusa, LA for six months. Wanted to build up some savings before returning to college.
In January of 1973, I started engineering studies at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Today it is called University of Louisiana Lafayette.
I worked various odd jobs while in school. At one point, I was installing continuous, aluminum gutters on homes and apartments.
One day we were measuring an apartment building to estimate supplies. The owner failed to tell us he had a German-shepherd, attack dog chained behind a building. It came out and bit me on the leg. Luckily, the chain limited him from getting me anywhere else. I was on crutches for a month. I worked for a couple of years after that in the Student Union, mostly as a night manager.
I lived in a variety of places around campus. The last place I lived was owned by The Keg. It was one of the most popular campus, night spots. A lot of people around there knew me as birdshit.
I got my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) in May 1976.
Lafayette (They pronounce it LAUGH-eye-ette.) is in the heart of the Cajun country. The people are fun-loving and friendly. They like to party! I learned to cook some of the Cajun food while going to school there.
