Auto-Comm Engineering Corp.

After getting my degree at USL, I took a break and went to Orlando, FL. My older brother was living there and I was just tired of working and going to school.

I considered staying around Orlando. However, about the time I started looking for a job, Martin-Marietta laid off 300 electrical engineers. People with experience were taking entry level jobs.

So, I returned to Lafayette, LA and got a job with Auto-Comm. It was a fairly new company. They had only been in business for a year. We did automation/process control, telecommunications and electrical work.

My primary responsibilities were designing & installing microwave radio and telephone systems, although I did a little of everything. The vast majority of our work was offshore in the Gulf Of Mexico. I spent a lot of time on production platforms and drilling rigs. Also spent many hours traveling on boats and helicopters.

I actually left Auto-Comm for most of 1979 and worked for Rockwell-Collins installing digital microwave systems for small telephone companies.

It's a long story, but I went back to Auto-Comm in early 1980 and then quit again.
