Air Force - Biloxi, Mississippi
I was in the Air Force from June 1968 to June 1972. I went to basic training in San Antonio, TX. My recollection is that basic training only lasted six weeks.
After that, I went to Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, for electronic's school. The Air Force had excellent training. My classes were in general electronics and radio maintenance.
I went home to Louisiana to visit relatives and friends on holiday weekends. I was not able to leave every weekend. We had class six days a week.
Towards the end of my training, we were given a chance to volunteer for an assignment in the Philippine Islands, Japan or Thailand. Tropical islands sounded great to me, so I volunteered for the Philippines. No one else volunteered. All of us went to that area.
